An Attitude of Gratitude

I'm thankful for..

The jobs that let me go
The people who told me no
The boyfriends who walked away
The friends who somehow strayed

I'm thankful for..

The people who said I couldn't sing
The teachers who said I couldn't write a damn thing
These awkward things I call my hands
That can't do much, but know how to give

But to the skeptics, heartbreakers, cynics- I thank you most.

You told me 'no', so I tried again.

Today I had my Beatles playlist on repeat and I came across this song. I've probably heard it a million times before, but now, as I trudge thru this quarter-life crisis, it seems especially poignant. I sang along at the top of my lungs and instead of being depressed at the statement, I felt free. Right then, I fitfully declared:

I've got no money, but I am rich beyond compare.
I've got no money, but my wealth lies above, below and WITHIN me.

Thanks to this immortal band- who, to this day, speak undeniable truth. The statement is disheartening, but they still know how to make it sound o sOoO good and soulful.

friends, know where your wealth is! the future lies in what we do today.
