An Attitude of Gratitude

I'm thankful for..

The jobs that let me go
The people who told me no
The boyfriends who walked away
The friends who somehow strayed

I'm thankful for..

The people who said I couldn't sing
The teachers who said I couldn't write a damn thing
These awkward things I call my hands
That can't do much, but know how to give

The scar on chest and the canyon in my heart
They've left me wide open, so I can give more at the next start
You said no- but I found a way
And these crumpled notes of paper?
They'll make sense one day.

Lord, I thank you,
Mom, Dad, Jr, I thank you
Friends and family, I thank you.
Cristern, I thank you.

But to the skeptics, heartbreakers, cynics- I thank you most.

You told me 'no', so I tried again.
You said goodbye- and I found a way to mend.
You brought me down, so i could bring myself back up.
Tried harder, when you said it wasn't enough.

I thank you all, one and the same.
For your love, your wrath, even the blame.
I'm who I am and where I am because of you
I hope one day, you can thank me too.
